Will Bamber leads series in LG ZM Suzuki Swift

After the excitement of being ‘launched’ as an LG Motorsport driver at Speedshow last September, life’s all been in the fast lane for LG ZM Suzuki Swift driver William Bamber. The 16-year-old from Wanganui took the early series lead after Pukekohe’s opening round before taking three decisive race wins in Christchurch in November. Winning the third, reverse grid of the weekend takes real skill, yet William, or more commonly Will, carved through the field to take his third victory of the weekend and consolidate his series lead.

At Teretonga William once again proved why he was selected to be part of the LG Motorsport Team, winning the first two races convincingly. His luck ran out however in the third reverse grid race and he finished in second place overall. Last weekend at Timaru William extended his series lead winning the round and consolidating his position with a total of 754 points despite the very difficult conditions which caused problems for many of his competitors.

Last season Will narrowly missed out winning the Suzuki Swift series but he is showing even more determination this summer and a level of confidence that’s inspiring.

“Last season I learnt how to win a championship,” he says, adding that while the little Swift is not especially fast on the straights, it is a forgiving car with great braking and is not difficult to drive at racing speeds.
