The LG ZB Falcon heads north
Angus Fogg and the LG ZB Falcon was all set for a full-on assault on the BNT V8s Championship as the popular race series hit the tracks at Teretonga, Invercargill – the world’s most southern motor racing circuit – and Timaru over the past few weeks.
Prior to travelling south Angus and his team had completed a comprehensive makeover on the LG ZB Falcon since the opening two rounds of the championship at Pukekohe and Christchurch.
“We had been over the car with a fine-tooth comb,” says the popular Auckland-based driver. “We’d found and remedied many small issues that had been hampering our recent progress.”
Southland provided perfect weather for motor racing and Angus achieved good results at Teretonga with a third place on the podium improving his championship ranking to 6th overall. The fine-tuning definitely paid off as Angus recorded the fastest lap times in all three races in the “Fire-breathing Dragon” as the TV3 presenters like to refer to the LG ZB V8.
Last weekend at Levels Raceway in Timaru proved to be a challenging and frustrating round. The LG ZB V8 was clearly set up perfectly during qualifying with an impressive laptime of 1:05:80 and achieving pole position for Sunday’s three races.
A combination of cold and wet weather, a new track surface coupled with being in the wrong place at the wrong time saw Angus and many others come off the track and lose their positions as well as sustain considerable damage. Despite the hurdles Angus managed to hold on to a top ten placing overall sitting in 8th position going into the Fourth Round in Manfeild in two weeks time.
“The last two rounds are at Manfeild (13-14 February) and Taupo (20-21 March). I’m refreshed and re-energised for the final two rounds of the championship. These two rounds is where it’s really at to determine the outcome of the championship, so we are very focussed on doing the very best we can, and moving up the championship ladder. A good result will see us do that.”
