Keeping busy

Hopefully I am expecting a fight confirmation soon. Obviously I’m continuing the training at a high level and doing gym workouts which includes weight sessions, sparring, running and swimming. I always really watch what I eat and only really have a bit of down time a few days after a fight then I’m straight back on the clean living. Before I have a fight announcement, it is the time that I do my promotional work and as boxing is an individual sport, you have to do a lot of promotional work to build the sport between training sessions.

Happy to get the win

I was happy to get the win on Wednesday. It was the result we were after and I was happy to get the ten rounds in because as a boxer it is highly beneficial, it is similar to match fitness for other sports. If I’m honest I was a bit flat and know that I can easily lift my performance. My training all went well and it has only happened once in my career before, so to get the win feeling like that is quite positive and my body is feeling good after the fight so that’s another positive.

Now it is only two weeks till my fight against Southpaw Danny Ammann.  The body is feeling great and training is going really well.  I have a new sparring partner from America and all the sparring partners are southpaws which means they lead with their right hand which will help me prepare for the style of Ammann

Fighting soon

Yesterday I visited Kids First Hospital in South Auckland and am proud to be joining the South Auckland Health Foundation as an ambassador. It was a real eye opener to see what some of the people there are going through. The staff in the hospital are amazing and the work that the Foundation does to fundraise and provide more equipment and services is awesome so I am really rapt to get in behind them and try and help as much as I can.

Changing to cruiserweight

As you might have seen on the news I am going to drop from the heavyweight division down to cruiserweight which hopefully will help me secure a fight with Australian boxer Danny Green for his world title.

I don’t think it will be an issue to drop the weight as I have already lost 7kgs and only need to drop another 7. My next fight will be in July on the under card fight to Green.

One opponent KO'd but another in Cameron's sights

Shane Cameron is on the hunt for a new opponent for his April 24 fight in Wellington after Australian Michael Kirby was forced to pull out of the bout on Friday.

It is great news that the fight is back on with Hopoate at The Festival Hall in Melbourne on March 18. It is really important to win this fight, not only to get that winning feeling back but to get back on track to achieving my goals.
