Competition Time

Anna Scarlett's picture

Woops, we missed last week!

I guess time flys a lot faster when we are in competition and travelling more frequently!

Last week was the first of our 8 back to back events. We played in Gstaad, Switzerland and it was BEAUTUIFUL!

Playing wise, we had a good first game and even though we lost our second, there was some really good stuff. We had to play the very experienced, crafty team from Canada. It was very close and it was a couple of our mistakes that lost it - all it takes aye.

We then came to Moscow, Russia for our second Grand Slam. It was such a mission getting visa's for here and it would be easy to say that it was not worth the hassel! We lost our first game in qualifier and I have no problems admitting that I lost it for us! Even after Suz accidently hit a hard ball into my face in the warm up, I failed to fire up and struggled.

Lesson learned for me - no sleeping pill the night before competition no matter how badly i've slept previous nights!

So, now we move onto Marseille, France! It is tough once on the move and living out of hotels and finding food etc! But we deal with it obviously (making mistakes and learning along the way!)

Suz will hopefully have the pleasure of updating you next week on Marseille!

Any chance of an entry that wraps up the last of the Beach Volleyball events you and Blundell played in and your brief filter with Netball ?

Hi Anna!

Hi Anna. I really miss seeing you on the netball court. I hope you are enjoying your career as a pro beach volleyballer, but is there any chance we might see you on a different type of court again in the future? :) James

Netball

Hi James, Thanks for your comment! I still follow the netball scene and seeing how challenging playing on the beach world tour is, have been tempted to come back to netball! But it was never going to be an easy road playing such a popular sport in the world so I am going to stick with my goals of Olympics 2012. After 2012 I will look to settle back in NZ and if I can still be involved in netball I would def like to! I can tell you that I will be seeing if i can actually still play netball next month as I will play for the Auckland NPC team! Looking forward to the change up for a month! Good for the mind to be able to switch in to my 'other' sport' when it suits! Cheers, Anna

:)

Thanks for your reply, Anna! :) Good luck playing for Auckland, I hope you and your team do well. Also good luck for the Olympics 2012 goal! I follow beach volleyball as well as netball, and even though I'm an Aussie, I'd love to see a Kiwi team mixing it up in the Olympics. ;) Hope you continue to have fun on both the netball and BVB courts! James.

Stick with Beach Vollyball

In the opinion of this regular commenter Scarlett should stick to Beach Volleyball because if she cant make her mind up about what sport she wants to play she wont be successful at either . I do have to admit a certain biases given just how much I like the sight of Scarlett in a bikini !!!

Lack of Sleep And Other Stuff

Do you know why you didn't sleep well ? If I am ever involved in any kind of sporting event in the future I will be sure not to take a Sleeping Pill the night before . I missed reading your blog last week . Yours and Blundell blogs are a regular stop off for this blogger and Team LG supporter . Are Russian people you encountered generally friendly ? Just what are your goals for the series of events you are in the amidst of playing ? I wouldn't be a surprised if various ANZ championship coach's approach you about a come back to Netball . In that event I hope I hope you stick with Beach Volleyball unless LG was to withdraw its sponsorship for some reason . I have grown accustom to supporting New Zealand's hottest up and coming sporting team !
